A Casa Portuguesa has been carrying produce from its homeland for over a decade, and loyalists keep coming back for the cheeses, patés, wines, port and the sweet, cherry-red Ginjinha – all the better with the obligatory pastel de nata. Or two.
After a few addresses around town, its current home on Plaça del Diamant in Gràcia is a fine homage to Portuguese design and hospitality. It’s primarily a takeaway, but you’re welcome to settle at the communal table at the back for a coffee, a slice of quiche, or one of the monthly wine tastings led by resident sommelier Manel.
The soundtrack is exquisitely chosen – no surprise given the shop’s perennial turn at Primavera Sound – and there’s even a corner given over to second-hand vinyl. One for homesick Portuguese, or anyone with a soft spot for the other half of the Iberian Peninsula.
